SLR Camera Bag

I don't know about ya'll but I HATE toting my massive nikon camera bag with me everywhere I go, but I can't afford to spend a bajillion dollars on a chic boutique one.  Found this one HERE at Creating Happiness and am so impressed.  I don't know if my sewing skills are up to par, but one can dream!

Seen these?

Have to admit, I'm kinda a sucker for late night infomercials.  Saw this product and actually really wanted it.  I am, however, much to cheap.  If nothing else, I usually have self control when it comes to my infomercial addiction.
Then, while perusing my favorite blogs, Little Birdie Secrets showed me how to make one!  Hallelujah!  Check out her awesome (and very likely, free to be done) tutorial HERE.

Nursing Bra's

I have many pet peeves when it comes to baby products.  I seriously think that real moms do not design things that are manufactured in stores. Good thing us crafty mama's come to the rescue and put out great tutorials to save us all one more headache.

Okay, enough with my ranting.  On to my great find.

Nursing bras are the bane of my existence.  I have yet to find one that fits well.  One that doesn't make me look like I'm eighty, one that isn't too tight, etc. etc.

Mama's Worldwide has an excellent tutorial HERE on how to turn a regular bra into a maternity bra.  Awesome!

I'd put in a picture, but I think we all get the idea...

Easy Car Seat Cover

I think we've all probably seen this handy car seat covers - but somehow, whenever I'm out and about with my little Miss, I always get comments about it.  So...I did some digging and found a tutorial that is easy and quick to follow.

A Little Tipsy has awesome instructions HERE and great pictures to guide you along.

This is an easy project - great for a novice seamstress - and it doesn't take long at all.  Also, it allows you some options to jazz up your cover your style.  I made my loops so they velcro together, then put bows on top of it to give it a more "put together" look.

Day 6
Chunky baby legs that are cute naked or covered up.

~~~
I have been wanting some of those darling baby leg warmers, but am too stingy to play boutique store prices. You know me and thrifty go hand-in-hand. So, of course, I turned to my wonderful internet and found a tutorial HERE at Everything Your Mama Made and More. So glad resourceful women figure these things out for me.
I'm thinking of making a pair for myself too!
You Need:
Womens tube/knee socks (6m-6yr) or Womens crew socks (0-18m) Girls knee socks also work GREAT.
Sewing machine or needle & thread
Scissors
Pins
What to Do:
First cut the socks into sections as pictured below. You will toss the heel & toe scraps, but keep the bottom of the foot. Note: for this tutorial I am working with crew socks, but the process is the same as with tube socks.
Photobucket
Take the section remaining from the foot & you want to fold it inside of itself as pictured below. You should have the nice side of the sock on the outside & inside with a fold on one end & both raw edges on the other.
Photobucket
Stick the long section of the sock inside your newly created tube. This would give you 3 raw edges on the side we are going to sew, the other side will have the folded edge & the finished edge that was originally the top of the sock. If you have a pattern such as stripes or argyle as I used you may try to get them to line up. Once you are happy with the positioning pin together. Make sure to pin just 3 layers, not all 6 or you won’t have a hole to stick your little ones leg through when you are finished.
Photobucket
Time to Sew! Set the stitch length on your sewing machine to 4 (longest stitch), this will allow the most stretch. If the long straight stitch just doesn’t stretch enough for you can also us a narrow zig zag stitch… width at 2 & length at 3. You want to stretch the pinned side over the arm of your sewing machine & sew a straight stitch all the way around. If you can’t get it to stretch over then you can use what ever method you use to sew circles normally, or you can simply stitch it together with a needle & thread the old fashion way.
Photobucket
OPTIONAL Your finished seam should look similar to this. For a cleaner more professional look you can use pinking sheers, a zigzag stitch, or serge the seam for extra strength & to prevent unraveling.
Photobucket
Then simply fold the trim down (putting the seam inside) & TADA… a baby & toddler leg warmer simply make another one & test them out on the nearest happy child!
Workin' Wednesday: Madison Envy
I love to accessorize my life - and if your household is anything like mine, after food, diapers, and formula there is little money left over for you to play with. That is why I love Madison Envy.
It's an affordable, stylish way to add some glam to your everyday mom look. The jewelry is so fun and holds up to little hands pulling on it. I also love the T-shirts they have. While they are one of the more expensive things on the site, they are fabulous! I have worn mine numerous times and it always fits like the first time I wore it. No stretching! It's also made out of that super soft stretchy tee material - not just hard, crappy cotton.
This is one of my favorite jewelry sets that Madison Envy offers. Definitely worth checking out. Easy on your style and your wallet!
Freebee Friday: Goodies for Mom
Found this great Freebee HERE from Goodies for Mom. I love getting a new swim suit every year, but this year, with money being tighter everywhere, haven't been able to swing it. Great opportunity ladies!
With swimwear season right around the corner, Land's End's Beach Living® suit separates are available in great cuts, styles, colors and prints. These separates include swim tops with adjustable straps that can be worn three different ways, side ties on swim skirts and bottoms that can be shortened or lengthened.
Last year Land's End sent me their popular V-neck Halter Swim Top and the Beach Living Solid Jersey SwimMini™. I actually bought the Beach Living Tummy Control Swim Shorts later on my own because although I do like the mini, the shorts are a more casual, comfortable choice for everyday wear. Can I just say that I love this suit? I love that I can mix and match the sizes so I can order the appropriate size even if I'm not a perfect match sizewise. In addition, have a two-piece suit that is not a bikini (which believe me when I tell you no one would want to see) is fabulous when you are rushing to go to the bathroom with little ones in tow. I love not having to completely undress and redress everytime. This is an extremely high quality suit that you can get for around $100. Hmm, that brings me to our giveaway...
...This would be the perfect thing you can buy if you win the $100 gift certificate from Land's End they are offering one lucky Goodies for Mom reader.
Workin' Wednesday: Homemade by Jill
I absolutely love blogs that show off one's own craftiness. Perhaps because I never think to document my love for crafts until after it's done, let alone teach others how to do them. While perusing many a craft blog, I came across Homemade by Jill. It has fabulous tutorials for all things baby, as well as a few things for mom's too.
Here are a couple of my favorite projects she has posted.
Impressive and Inspiring, huh? Head on over to Homemade by Jill and start crafting!
Oh, and Happy April Fool's Day!!
Tutorial Tuesday: Easy Headbands
Easy Ribbon Headband - 1
Easy Ribbon Headband - 2
Ribbon headbands secured to elastic ponytail holders.
I've seen many headbands lately which use a loop of cord elastic that is cinched at the center, usually by a metal crimp, to form a figure eight. This inspired me to use two ponytail holders to achieve a similar effect--because I do not have any metal crimps and neither do you, I presume, and, while we're at it, maybe you don't even have cord elastic. So here it is, an easy headband using minimal supplies that you probably already have at home.
Materials
  • Ribbon, approximately 15-20" (38-51 cm) in length (the length will depend on the size of the ponytail holders you use)
  • 2 elastic ponytail holders
Instructions
  1. Interlace the 2 ponytail holders together as shown in Diagram 1 and pull on them to form a knot.
  2. Diagram 1
    Diagram 1
  3. Fold one end of your ribbon 0.25-0.5" (6-13 mm) to the wrong side twice, slipping one of the ponytail holders inside the second fold. Without sewing over the ponytail holder, sew the folded end of the ribbon with a rectangle of stitching as shown in Diagram 2.
  4. Tip: If your ribbon is wider than 0.75" (19 mm), you may want to fold or pleat the ribbon at the ends so that it is narrow enough to attach easily to the ponytail holders.
    Diagram 2
    Diagram 2
  5. Test the fit by trying on the headband while stretching the ponytail holders to the unattached end of the ribbon. Cut the ribbon to the desired length, adding in extra length for the seam allowance.
  6. Repeat Step 2 with the other end of the ribbon and the other ponytail holder, making sure the ribbon is not twisted.
